Ive personally not tried it, but I'd assume it does.

However, I still cannot see what you aim to acheive with this.

It is not Live Safe, LT's intended purpose, doing this defeats LT's intended purpose.

I have several Benq drives but my working Xbox has a Hitachi drive, the idea is to spoof a Benq drive with the Hitachi info then put Benq LT on that.  If the spoofing does not alter the identfier info then it doesnt matter as its still not live safe, like you say.

So if a Hitachi LT is not likely what are my options?

sadly right now..
if you want to use LT propelry you need to obtain another system with either an original liteon or benq  drive included then flash with LT.

Can't we just use any kind of drive flashed with LT and a correct key in any console? If not, is this detectable or simply doesn't work? Huh

On the other hand, I have an LT'd 74850c in a system that originally contained a 93450c, JF said that it couldn't cross-spoof between encrypted LiteOn versions. I have been using it on Live for 2 weeks now, and didn't had any problem since. Is this detectable?

YES !

the Fall '06 update included Error 66. This would show at boot time if the OSIG of the drive did not match the OSIG stored in the NAND. There were a few exceptions, some machines did not keep an OSIG and I believe in some case upgrades were OK i.e. if you used a 79 to replace a 78 you got no error but a 59 in a 78 system would error... E66 was later further qualified by only happening if the key was correct... More recently E66 was removed, which means any drive with the right key will boot games, BUT this is almost certainly logged..

OK, so for a proper spoof - the drive brand/model must be the same. But what if the firmwares are different? Is only the OSIG for the drive brand logged, or the firmware revision (74850c/83850c/93450c) as well?

I have a question that pertains to this topic, but in a convoluted way, I have a failing dvd drive in my halo 3 limited edition 360, hitachi. If I send it in for repair ( I know it will cost $$, could get a console used with benq or liteon) will it come back with a benq or liteon in it as a replacement drive? anyone have an exp with this? then when it was returned I would flash it up to LT thats current at the time.

You would want them to replace your Hitachi to either a BenQ or LiteOn. You need to hope for a BenQ though. A LiteOn drive with LT firmware set to target will not copy over the ID (Inquiry/Identify) strings from a Hitachi dump. You will need to get a BenQ, but the chance of a BenQ drive over a LiteOn is minimal.

You can't spoof LiteOn LT firmware. But you can spoof BenQ LT.
You can still flash your drive, but BenQ LT firmware for a BenQ drive is more safer for Xbox Live.

Why can't you grab the key (256KB .bin) dump from the Hitachi (the PCB is still not damage) and then just buy any BenQ drive?

A couple of things.

1. To dump the fw and return it under warranty is fraud, and shouldnt be discussed here.

2. If he does send it in, as a Hitachi, and MS replace the drive - He wont need to spoof it, they'll update the keyvault when replacing the drive

@FirmX - You dont need to spoof any LiteOn LT even keeping same vendor, just write the relevant LT/OFW to the drive and it "becomes" that fw rev.
